Sorry I have been away for a bit but there has been A LOT happening...
It may not be news to all of you but I am now living in Wohlen, Switzerland. The BIG news is that I have now opened a second production shop here. Yes, I still have my original Flagship location in East Greenwich Rhode Island but now that I am here most of the time it seemed logical and practical to expand. I have been getting an increasing volume of orders from across Europe so this makes things much easier for me to manage. I have made a very large investemnt in new machinery and I am glad I did. My new machines are really fantastic and I am VERY happy with the very high quality of work I am now able to produce on them.
I have also designed several new instruments including:
1) Conical Bore two piece Bb fife. I LOVE this fife and have been using it as my performing instrument for 2 years now. No knock on the original Healy Fife which I also still love but this is a fife that is really easy and fun to play. It has a "classic" fife sound with bright high notes that sound great with drums. The "Grainfields" fife and drum corps from Rhienfelden Switzerland play them and really love them. It has changed the sound of their corps entirely as they are able to blast out their high note with ease now. This fife also does not have the tricky C natural that my parabolic fife has... I will be adding photos to the instrument page soon.
2) Conical bore D piccolo. This is a natural progression from the new Conical Bb fife. GREAT for trad Irish and Contra Dance music as well as other musical forms... Photos also to come soon.
3) TWO newly designed D flutes: The first is a new 2 piece design with a modified bore and the second is a new 3 piece flute. I have extended and modified the bore on my classic 3 piece Healy flute which has changed the flute completely. It is a three piece flute with head, barrel and body joints. I could easily play up to A 3 (A, third octave) on the traditional Healy flute design as you can hear on my Purgatory Chasm CD (Bay of Fundy). This flute now plays up to D 4 above that!!!!! VERY powerful and it has become my new favorite flute...
Also in the works is my long awaited low Bb flute!
I will also soon be releasing a new concert recording called "Live! In Wohlen" featuring guitar monster Olivier le Clerq. I have played with my French born "brother from another mother" for over 20 years here in Europe. The CD has several sets that I have recorded in the past from my "Empty Pockets", "Farewell New England Shores" and "The Cartel" records and CD's plus a few new ones as well. Added to those sets are some great songs from Olivier. It should be out in the next month so keep and eye on this site for the announcement!
I also have a second web site now at http://www.skiphealy.ch It is in German but you can easily hit your computers translator program if you want it in English. This site has a huge photo and video gallery and I suggest you have a look if you haven't yet!
That's about it for the moment. Thanks for checking in and remember as always, BUY MORE STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;-)
In conjunction with the world famous resort community of Arosa, Switzerland and their "MUSIK-KURSWOCHEN" (music course week), I will be teaching a week long series of classes on Irish flute and tin whistle music. The program will take place JULY 31 - AUGUST 4, 2017. I will be posting information and videos about the event very soon!!! Imagine, learning about traditional Irish music high in the Swiss Alps, staying in a beautiful hotel called "Hotel Hohe Promenade" a 3 star hotel with AMAZING food and service...
